Family: ACANTHACEAE Genus: Sanchezia Species: speciosa Species Author: Leonard Vernacular: Sancheza, Shrubby Whitevein Synonyms: Sanchezia nobilis hort. non Hook.
Sanchezia is a bushy shrub grown for its handsome foliage. The species has opposite oval or lance shaped leaves, bright green with prominently marked white veins, since the name “Shrubby Whitevein”.
The flowers appear in spikes, in the summer. These are narrowly tubular, yellow with reddish-orange bracts and emerge on the leaf axils. The bracts often persist long after the flowers had fallen.

Because of its beautiful foliage, in the tropics Sanchezia is grown as a specimen or in hedgerows. Outside of tropics it should be grown as a pot plant in a warm conservatory or a greenhouse because of the species high requirements for soil and atmospheric humidity.

Sanchezia speciosa is native to Peru and Equator where it grows in the humid environment of the tropical rainforests.
