Website Privacy Policy
National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG) is very sensitive to privacy issues on the Internet. We believe it is important you know how we treat the information you may provide to us.
Unless prominently and specifically stated otherwise, the information you provide is never shared with others.
This privacy statement applies only to information collected by web addresses in the NTBG.org domain, hereafter referred to collectively as NTBG.
How We Gather Information
If you make a donation, purchase a product or service from us, or initiate another online transaction, we request certain personally identifiable information from you. You must provide contact information (such as name, email, and address) and, if applicable, financial information (such as credit card number, expiration date). We use this information to track your transaction, for billing purposes, and/or to fill your orders. If we have trouble processing your transaction, we will use this information to contact you. We also use the mailing address to send you items of interest.
For your security, NTBG does not retain any credit card information in its database.
NTBG may occasionally provide you the opportunity to participate in offers or surveys on our site. If you participate, we may request certain personally identifiable information from you. Participation in these surveys or offers is voluntary and you therefore have a choice whether or not to disclose this information. The requested information typically includes contact information (such as name and address) and demographic information (such as zip code).
Log Files
As is true of most websites, we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information may include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, and clickstream data.
We use this information, which does not identify individual users, to analyze trends, to administer the site, to track user movements around the site, and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole.
Cookies
A cookie is a small text file that is stored on a user’s computer for recordkeeping purposes. We do use cookies on this site. NTBG may use both session ID cookies and/or persistent cookies. We use session cookies to make it easier for you to navigate our site. A session ID cookie expires when you close your browser. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive for an extended period. You can remove persistent cookies by following directions provided in your Internet browser’s help file.
If you reject cookies, you may still use our site, but your ability to use some areas of our site.
How We Protect Your Personal Information
NTBG safeguards the security of the data you send us with physical, electronic, and managerial procedures. Likewise, we urge you to take every precaution to protect your personal data when you are on the Internet.
The NTBG website uses industry-standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption on all web pages where personal information is required. When entering personal information, we strongly recommend an SSL-enabled web browser. Web browsers developed after Internet Explorer 3 and Netscape 3 use SSL version 3. (For the best experience at the NTBG website, we recommend using Netscape 6, IE 5, or better browsers.) This protects the confidentiality of your personal and credit card information while it is transmitted over the Internet. On some areas of the NTBG website, users do have the option to use a non-SSL connection. We do this for compatibility for older browsers.
When you enter credit card information on the NTBG website, we do not store credit card numbers on our servers. Credit card numbers are submitted to a credit card authorization service. This service provides NTBG with credit card validation information only. We do not have access to your personal financial data.
Newsletters and Promotional Email
If you no longer wish to receive our newsletters and promotional communications from NTBG, you may opt-out of receiving them by following the instructions included in each newsletter or communication or by emailing us at administration@ntbg.org.

The NTBG website contains links to other sites that are not owned or controlled by NTBG. Please be aware that NTBG is not responsible for the content and privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage you to be aware when you leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information.
Changes to this Privacy Statement
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to this privacy statement, and other places we deem appropriate so that you are aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.
We reserve the right to modify this privacy statement at any time, so please review it regularly. If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you here, by email, or by means of a notice on our home page.
