This plant is originally from Madagascar and now also established on the Mascarene Island of Mauritius. The leaves are thick and coriaceous, thus the name of the plant. The fruits are a green drupe turning yellow when ripe. The seeds are sub-spherical, dark brown, flattened and also very hard. The ripe fruits have a sweet, sticky yellow flesh much appreciated by children.
