Are you curious about yoga but don’t know where to start? Or perhaps you’ve taken a class and wish to deepen your understanding? The Yoga 101: Foundations Workshop is the perfect opportunity to explore the rich history, philosophy, and practice of yoga in a welcoming and supportive environment. The workshop is crafted for beginners and led by resident Kampong teacher, Samantha Reynolds (500-hour certified). Samantha’s extensive training and passion for yoga shine through in her teaching, guiding you through each step with care and expertise.

Part 1: History and the Eight Limbs of Yoga

(90 minutes) Delve into the ancient roots of yoga and discover its transformative power. Learn about the eightfold path (one of many in yoga) and how the ethical principles of Yamas and Niyamas lay the foundation for a meaningful practice.

Part 2: Practice – Poses, Pranayama, and Meditation (90 minutes) Experience some core elements of a yoga practice commonly found in studios with hands-on guidance. Master key poses, unlock the secrets of breath control, and learn about meditation. We’ll tie in what we learned from the first session and apply it to practice. 

What to Bring: 

Please bring a mat for the asana (poses) portion of class. If you don’t have one, we can provide one for you. 

Whether you’re seeking physical wellness, mental clarity, or spiritual growth, the workshop is designed to provide you with the tools and knowledge to embark on your yoga journey. This workshop will be half discussion and half practical application related to common poses found in a studio class. Workshop begins at 12:30pm on the open-air, covered terrace of the Schokman Education Center. Includes garden admission. 

Fees: 

Both Sessions: $70 non-members/ $50 for NTBG members.

Session 1 – 12:30-2:00pm History and the Eight Limbs of Yoga – $40/$30

Session 2 – 2:15pm-3:45pm Poses, Pranayama, & Meditation  – $40/$30

Includes garden admission to The Kampong.
