The Kampong
Nature is a gifted source of color. By observing our natural surroundings and also learning back from past traditions, we can obtain color from nature, from a variety of sources like lichens, insects, and plants. Even from plants, we can obtain color from flowers, leaves, bark, seeds, and more. We invite you, in this workshop, to observe The Kampong Gardens in a botanist-colorist way, and to experience a morning of natural dyeing. This workshop will allow you to explore three natural dyes that actually you can find in your kitchen: avocado, black beans, and turmeric.
We will spend a morning exploring and dyeing with natural colors and also experimenting with shibori techniques to dye fabric.Suitable for ages 16 and up. All materials included. Everyone will leave with a 100% cotton natural-dyed tote bag and fabric samples in three colors. You can also bring some natural fabric clothes if you want to try to color them. Space is limited to 20 people.
Rates are $45 for non-members and $35 for NTBG Members
