National Tropical Botanical Garden and Kauai Community College present the ‘Earth Matters public lecture series’

Threats, Solutions, and Survival: Saving Kauai’s Rare Seabirds

Tuesday, May 14, 2019 – 5:30pm

NTBG and KCC’s collaborative ‘Earth Matters’ public lecture series continues on Tuesday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Kauai Community College. Join Dr. Andre Raine, coordinator for the Kauai Endangered Seabird Recovery Project at Kauai Community College, as he discusses the threats, solutions, and survival of three endangered seabird species found only in Hawaii. Kauai is an important refuge for breeding populations of all three species and home to 90% of the world’ Newell’s shearwaters, but these unique seabirds are threatened by powerlines, light attraction, and introduced predators. Dr. Raine will examine how the conservation challenges facing seabirds in Hawaii and other parts of the world, as well as offer solutions that may help ensure their survival.

The talk will be held in the KCC Campus Center Cafeteria behind the Performing Arts Center.
