Tecomanthe dendrophila is an evergreen, twining climber with sparsely branched stems and opposite, pinnate leaves, each consisting of 3 to 5 ovate or oblong-lance-shaped, medium green leaflets. It produces clusters of up to 12 flowers with deep pink to rose-purple tubes, becoming yellow at the top, and 5 yellow lobes suffused and veined pink or purple. In general, this tropical, evergreen flowering vine climbs by twining and is grown primarily for its trumpet or funnel-shaped flowers that hang in pendent clusters from bare branches. Leaves on younger plants are sparse, but fill in with age.
