Plant Description:
Taro to 50 cm tall in taro patch.
Ethnobotanical Notes:
Uses: Food - Edible taro; leaves are used for soup. Boil the taro leaves for a long time with coconut milk (Cocos nucifera, [Lius]) and other ingredients. (CK).
Medicinal - When head is hit by an object, cut the stem of the kukau and scrape the stem - crush the end and apply to the head. Use the jice to rub on the bump. This will stop the pain, and numb the area. Similar to the way aloe (Aloe vera) is used. Could work on any part of the body. Numbs the pain for about an hour. It is usually applied only once, and is used for immediate relief. (CK).
