This well-known and much-loved palm is often used in smaller gardens and for indoor decoration. It is a solitary species with a slender, gray-green crownshaft and ringed trunk and leathery, pinnate leaves. The flower stalk is coming from under the crownshaft followed by large clusters of bright red fruits. 0.75 inches long (2 cm). The seeds are easy to germinate, and the plants are easy to care for and capable of growing rather quickly if given adequate water and feed.

Solitaires are produced in the thousands by nurseries in the south of Australia as indoor or patio palms. Given a shady spot, they grow slim and elegant, holding a crown of dark green leaves above a green crownshaft. It is becoming very popular with landscapers because the leaves are not as big and hard to deal with as the widely used Archontophoenix alexandrae palm.
