This small banana plant grows up to 9' tall, forming dense clumps of attractive foliage. The glaucous green leaves reach 6' long. The inflorescence is erect, consisting of pale purplish pink to lilac bracts. The flowers are deep orange-yellow. Fruits are pale greenish-yellow with white pulp and turn yellowish when ripe with numerous black seeds. However, the flowers must be pollinated and fertilized for the full development of the fruit.
If grown in container or cooler climate the plant will stay smaller.
