Description: Ervatamia is a 2m tall shrub with divaricating branches. Smooth , hairless leaves are elliptical and pointed the tips, about 20 x 8 cm. Flowers are in bunches known as cymes, which are stalked. The attractive flowers are shaped like trumpet shaped like plumeria and are 2cm long x 1.5 wide. Each petal extends out about 2 cm. Fruits are oval shaped and spotted, about 1 cm long.

The plant is used as medicine in Tonga and is closely related to several other species containing indole alkaloids, commonly used in modern medicine.
