Plant Description:
Tree 8 m high, dbh 20 cm, flowers yellow with red centers, common. N.V. kelew [Pohnpeian]
Ethnobotanical Notes:
Bark. Cordage. Used for making ropes, cut strips of bark, put in sea for ca. 2 weeks, pound bark/fibers in sea, extract fiber, hang in sun for two days or so until bark changes color, spin into ropes. Can use large ropes for climbing trees.
Flower. Ceremonial Plant. Flowers for head garland (Mwaramwar).
Flowers + young fruits. Boils. To heal a boil. If a boil on the skin takes too long to heal, take flowers and young leaves, mash in hand and put in coconut oil. Stick all of this on the boil. One or two days later the boil opens.
Leaves. Wrap. Leaves to cover food--as a wrap, when you boil or bake it. To cover for example, taro, banana, flour.
Vine. Stake. Use this tree as a support for yams. Let the vines grow on its branches; must plant yams near this tree.

Seaside vegetation, swamp
