Area called "The Blue Hole"; Headwaters of N.Fork of Wailua River, just N. of Mt. Kawaikini, and S.E. of Mt. Waialeale. Deep, narrow valley surrounded by vertical cliffs laced with waterfalls. Alt.600-700 m.
Plant Description:
75 cm tall subshrub growing in a clump 75 cm wide. Abundant east of main stream; in flower, no seed.
Habitat:
Low undisturbed wet forest of small, stunted trees and shrubs growing over saturated, rocky ground.
Associated Species:
w/ Metrosideros, Bobea, Perrottetia, etc. with ground cover of Pteridophytes, Gunnera, Cyrtandra, and Cyanea
