Plant Description:
Herb 3 ft. tall, scented. Flower is large green and yellow in color. "Oahgtik [Pohnpeian]."
Ethnobotanical Notes:
Digestive: For newborn babies. Given to them four days before the mother breast feeds the baby. For cleaning out the prebirth contents of the baby's stomach. Grind the tuber and mix with coconut oil. Squeeze through coconut fiber so it is mixed. Cook enough just so it is hot. Then feed the baby most easily by using a sponge to dip in the substance.
Medicine: Baby, for redness around where the skin folds (e.g. the top of the leg, crease by the elbow, and neck). Pound tuber mixed with Gopuk fruit. Then squeeze through coconut fiber and mix with 1/2 gallon of water. Give to baby to drink everyday until the redness is gone.

Starch: Used for cooking with fish and breadfruit. Use the leaves and tuber juice for cooking. Throw leaves and tuber juices in the bioling water along with coconut oil.
Habitat:
Lowland, collected by the shady creek side.
