Lihue-Koloa Forest Reserve. Along ridge ESE of Puu Kolo to summit. Lower ridge. Elev. 1200-1850 ft.

Plant Description:
Scales confined to base of stipe, golden-brown to reddish-brown. Pinnae dark, glossy green above with basal pinnules overlapping rachis; below whitish-green, "porcelain", veins not noticeable. On erect rhizome of up to 3 ft. Common on summit.
Habitat:
In diverse forest of Metrosideros, Acacia, Canthium, Cyanea, Bidens, Myrsine, and Dicranopteris with rather stunted vegetation on the windward slopes of ridge.
Associated Species:
Hedyotis and Zingiber.
