The breadfruit living collection and herbarium specimen at NTBG provide unique opportunities to study and share access to this important staple crop. Our research is directed at understanding and conserving breadfruit diversity, promoting regenerative agroforestry and reforestation, as well as conducting foundational studies to support the use of breadfruit, ethnobotany, and more in order to increase and share what is known about breadfruit.
The institute’s scientific studies are building on the work that has been done by staff researchers through collaboration with scientists and students at universities, botanical gardens, and other institutions in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Pacific Islands.
