Lumahai Valley, south facing side of ridge running below southern end of Namolokama.
Plant Description:
Eastern colony w/ 3 large Cyanea kuhihewa w/ several small seedlings in the immediate area. Mature trees include #5 @ 110 cm tall w/ 4 heads (1 immature fruit was bagged for protection) and #6 @ 2 m tall w/ 2 heads (5 immature fruit bagged). Two Goodnature rat traps were set in the immediate region and slug bait was distributed.
We plan to return and monitor all 6 mature individuals of Cyanea kuhihewa on 25 July. Plans include bringing several additional staff to carefully remove or kill Miconia crenata (=Clidemia hirta) which is the most serious invasive plant species that threatens C. kuhihewa in the immediate area.

Metrosideros lowland wet forest bordered by steep slopes of Dicranopteris and Diplopterygium matting ferns, 90% closed canopy

w/ Antidesma platyphyllum var. hillebrandii, Syzygium sandwicensis, Cheirodendron forbesii, Ilex anomala, Wikstroemia oahuensis, Polyscias oahuensis, Polyscias waialealae, Dubautia knudsenii, Psychotria mariniana, Kadua affinis, Melicope wawraeana, Melicope feddei, Diplazium sandwichianum, Sadleria spp, Cibotium spp.
