Plant Description:
Growing at base of mango tree next to old loi walls on the side of Ahuimanu Stream. large birds nest fern with long, broad, lanceolate-elliptic leaves. Apex acute, fronds slightly undulating and flexible. Midrib stiff, mostly dark purple-black fading to green distally. Midrib prominent on upper surface, slightly rounded but mostly flat below except for base of frond where the midrib bulges a bit more. Many plants germinating on rocks and trees in gully. Most likely introduced from surrounding nurseries and gardens.

Associated Species:
dominated by Ardisia elliptica, Psidium cattleianum, Syzygium malaccense, Terminalia, catappa, Oplismenus hirtellus, Miconia crenata, Pandanus tectorius, Christella parasitica, Deparia petersenii, Davallia solida var. feejeensis, and others.
