Shrub 2 m tall, stems, petioles and veins beneath reddish. Staminate buds pinkish. Occasional locally with P. ruber. Endemic
Habitat:
low primary wet forest
Associated Species:
with Metrosideros polymorpha, M. waialealae, Syzygium, Ilex, and large stands of Dicranopteris.
