Plant Description:
Shrub, 2 m tall, flowering in lateral branches, common.
Habitat:
Dubautia-Sadleria shrubland-fernland
Associated Species:
w/ Dubautia imbricata subsp. acronaea, D. knudsenii subsp. filiformis, D. laxa subsp. hirsuta, D. paleata, D. raillardioides, D. pauciflorula, Sadleria cyatheoides, S. pallida, S. souleyetiana, S. squarrosa, Antidesma platyphyllum var. hillebrandii, Astelia argyrocoma, Bidens forbesii, Broussaisia arguta, Coprosma kauaense, Ilex anomala, Pritchardia hardyi, Syzygium sandwicensis, numerous species of Cheirodendron, Cyanea, Cyrtandra, Labordia, Kadua, Lobelia, Melicope, Metrosideros, Myrsine, Peperomia, Pipturus, Platydesma, Polyscias, Psychotria, Scaevola, and Vaccinium, common sedges are Cyperus sandwicensis, Eragrostis grandis, Gahnia vitiensis subsp. kauaiensis, Machaerina angustifolia, Panicum lineale, along with several species of Dichanthelium, ferns include Cibotium glaucum, Dicranopteris linearis, Diplopterygium pinnatum, Sphenomeris chinensis, several species of Adenophorus, Asplenium, Dryopteris, Elaphoglossum, and Hymenophyllum, open bogs occur in scattered locations along the main upper headwater ridge line and are dominated by genera such as Metrosideros, Rhynchospora, Dichanthelium, Gahnia, Machaerina, Plantago, Viola, and Oreobolus, occasional stands of Metrosideros-Cheirodendron forest, several nearby steep slopes composed of Dicranopteris linearis, Diplopterygium pinnatum, and Sticherus owhyhensis.
