SE corner of island. National Park of American Samoa, coastal trail between Tufu Point and Si`u Point: elevation 2-4 m.
Plant Description:
Small tree 3 m tall with full, dense crown. Inflorescences l eaf-opposed. Corolla lobes white, tube green. Syncarp 6 x 4 cm, green ripening waxy-white, becoming soft and foetid smelling. Samoan name: "nonu".
Habitat:
Littoral forest, alternating with open littoral shrubland and agroforest areas, over coral rubble.
Associated Species:
With canopy of Barring tonia asiatica, Hernandia nymphaeifolia, Hibiscus tiliaceus, Ficus, Morinda, Macaranga, Scaevola taccada.
