Locality:
Area called "The Blue Hole" or "The Crater", headwaters of N. fork of Wailua river, just N. of Mt. Kawaikini and SE. of Mt. Waialeale. Deep, narrow valley surrounded by vertical cliffs 600-700 m high laced with waterfalls; alt. 600-700 m.
Plant Description:
Low subshrub of perennial herb, leaves shiny green, concolorous. Corolla in bud rounded, apex depressed; at anthesis tube greenish white, lobes pale green. Locally abundant on wet, seeping cliff faces, endemic.
Habitat:
undisturbed low wet forest of small, stunted trees & shrubs (Metrosideros, Bobea, Perrottetia, etc.), with ground cover of pteridophytes, Gunnera, Cyrtandra, & Cyanea,
