KAUAI: Wainiha, below Pali Ele'ele, narrow carved drainage strewn with boulders, to north of Ele'ele.
Plant Description:
rhizomes clustered in 2 x 2 m patches, stems 2-4 m tall, ca 100 stems emerging from clusters, stems purple-black, upper nodes spaced 5-8 cm, lower nodes spaced up to 25 cm, leaves dark green above, paler below, margins flat to slightly drooping, around 10 patches observed, rhizome collected for NTBG nursery
Habitat:
Relic Metrosideros-Acacia-Dicranopteris lowland wet forest.
Associated Species:
With Psychotria mariniana, Pisonia, Hedyotis terminalis, Cyanea fissa, Pittosporum glabrum, and patches of Piper methysticum
