Ka`upulehu Preserve, at mile 28 along Hawaii Belt Road (Mamalahoa Hwy 190), ca. 10 miles E of Kailua-Kona.
Plant Description:
Tree 6 m with dense canopy, trunk 15 cm, bark blackish. Dioecious, female flowers fragrant, corolla pink. Fruits fleshy, red, seed brown. Dominant tree, endemic.
Habitat:
Dry forest over a`a lava flow.
Associated Species:
With Diospyros sanwicensis, Santalum paniculatum, Sophora chryso- phlla, and Colubrina oppositifolia.
