Na Pali Kona Forest Reserve. Steep rocky upper slopes of S. rim of Kalalau Valley, just N. of K ahuamaa flat and Highway 550; elev. 1 000-900 m.
Plant Description:
Tree 5 m X 30 cm at base, young stems, petioles, lower surfa ce midrib and veins, and young inflorescences purple, leaves fleshy. Occasional in shady gulch bottom, endemic.
Habitat:
Patches of mixed mesophytic forest of Metrosideros polymorpha.
Associated Species:
with Nestegis, Xylosma, Ple omele, and open weedy areas invaded by Erigeron karvinskianus.
