3 km inland from main road (turnoff is at Wenik School) along side road to Sahwurlap and Sahwartik Falls, then along footpath to plateau above waterfalls. Approximate elev. 160-190 m.
Plant Description:
Rhizomatous herb, pseudostems 8-9 m tall, lvs. distichous, fragrant, blades 150 x 40 cm. Fruits green with red calyx, ripening red, many eaten by birds. Flrs. w calyx red, tepals red, white basally, stamens & staminode white. Seed voucher.
Habitat:
Lowland wet forest and old growth agroforest.
Associated Species:
Pangium, Parenari, Pandanus, Cyathea, Syzygium, Eugenia Freycinetia, Maesa, Cananga odorata, Clinostigma ponapensis, Pittosporum, Ixora, Angiopteris, & Tectaria.
