Plant Description:
Plant in bloom to 70 cm tall. Top bulb visible. Leaves up to 8 per bulb, ± equitant, 3 cm broad at base to 5 cm broad above middle, green above to nearly white at base, somewhat glossy; below paler, duller. Inflorescence: scape solid, 47 X 2.2 cm, pale green with slight glaucous bloom, finely striated throughout, to nearly white at base; floral bracts like onion skin, whitish to dark brown, transparent in places; 11 flowers in head; tube slightly curving, to 14.5 X 0.5 cm, pale green, to white at apex; perianth lobes 10.5 X 0.6 cm, white, arched and curling pendant, well seperate from corona; corona 2.5 cm deep, somewhat ascendant, to 3 cm broad; free part of stamens to 5.8 cm, white at base then bright green, anthers to 1.5 cm, pollen orange-brown; stigma 9 cm, nearly white at base, then bright green; ovary 0.7 X 0.7 cm, green, with up to 8 white ovules per locule, in pairs one above another; strong hyacinthine fragrance. Bulb brought from naturalized roadside population in Nov. 1987 ca, 1 mi SW of Opihikao, makai side of Rt. 137, Puna, Hawaii Is.
