Plant Description:
Plant in flower ca. 70 cm tall. Leaves equitant, to 58 X 5.5. (-6.6) cm, above mostly medium green, glossy, with base nearly white, below pale green somewhat glossy. Inflorescence: scape 38 X 2.3 cm, solid, flattened, sharply 2-edged, pale green, darker on ridges, somewhat glossy; two floral bracts like onion skin, transparent in places; bracts within inflorescence pale greenish-white; head within inflorescence pale greenish-white; head 8-flowered; flowers deeply fragrant, appear freshly opened at dawn; ovary medium green, 1.5 cm long; tube 19 cm long, mostly pale green but becoming white at apex, curved; segments to 13 X 0.7 cm, white with green tips, arched but well seperate from funnelform corona, pendant and curling; corona ultimately flat, 4.2 cm wide, white; stamens widely spreading (13-15 cm across), some nearly horizontal, free part to 7 cm long, in free part mostly bright green, otherwise white, anther green with brown-orange pollen; pistil longer than stamens (10 cm above mouth of corona), white at base, through pale green to dark green at apex and trilobed, club-like stigma; ovary with 5-7 white ovules in each chamber. Cultivated by L. Hume, from bulb collected on 'Eua, Tonga, by L. Hume ("seed" col. #350, PTBG Accsn. #870022) in Feb., 1987.
