West side of Hanapepe Bay, 300 m SW of Paakahi Point, along south-eastern coastal strand of Burns Airfield, near Lycium carolinianum patch,
Plant Description:
shrub, low prostrate, spreading ca. 40 cm x 40 cm, leaves silver-green, corolla red or red-pink, standard with yellow center, early stage of pod formation on a few older flowers, single plant with 2 seedlings nearby.
Habitat:
Shrubland mixed with patches of grassland & herbland.
Associated Species:
W/ Sida fallax, Jacquemontia ovalifolia, Ipomoea pes-caprae subsp brasiliensis, Sporobolus virginicus, Sesuvium portulacastrum, Scaevola taccada, Vigna marina, Panicum torridum, Panicum fauriei v. latius
Comments:
significant regeneration of rare Sesbania; no evidence of being planted and occurring around relic native coastal species as described in locality information; will be monitored closely for seed production, recommend leaving majority of seeds around site for continued regeneration, and collecting some seed for conservation at NTBG;
