Haupu summit region.
Plant Description:
trees, 2 m tall, few to moderately branched, stems light gray, corolla red, stigma and style red, regenerating population on lower eastern edge of mountain summit (ca 100 trees), and another sub-population on steep north face of mountain (ca 70 tree).
Habitat:
Open shrubland/herbland with sparse tree cover of Metrosideros polymorpha.
Associated Species:
Dicranopteris linearis, Cibotium glaucum, Sadleria pallida along with groupings of native trees such as Hedyotis terminalis; Psychotria mariniana; Antidesma platyphyllum var. hillebrandii; Bobea brevipes; Xylosma hawaiiense; Cheirodendron fauriei; Melicope feddei; and Tetraplasandra oahuensis.
