Waimea Canyon, Upper Koaia Canyon. Lower slopes of N-facing canyon wall across from Root Trail, 50 ft above stream.
Plant Description:
2 trees next to each other, 10 ft tall. Petioles dk red. Below leaf white-green w/ dk green secondary veins. Top of leaf dull dk green. Fruit white gelatinous on stem. Slight pubescence to stem, petioles, and underside of leaf. Calyx red-green.
Habitat:
Diverse Mesic-Wet transitional forest.
Associated Species:
Metrosideros, Dodonea, Melicope, Nestegis, Xylosma hawaiiense, Antidesma, Bobea, Alectryon macrococcus var. macrococcus, Pleomeles, Lipochaeta connata subsp. connata, understory of ferns.
