Plant Description:
Small tree to 4m. Common in cloud forest and on slopes below. Flowers orange, 0.5 cm, remain partially closed, on racemes. Leaves compound (oddly pinnate with 7-9 leaflets); short, fine orange/red hairs along stems and leaf midribs; fruits 4-5 cm long, oblong covered in red/orange hairs.
Habitat:
Low, open canopy ridge top cloud forest. Ridge-top cloud forest; low canopy (4-6 m). Heavy rainfall (400+ inches/yr); very shallow soil.
Associated Species:
Vegetation dominated by small trees and shrubs (Pandanus patina, Glochidion, Garcinia) covered in epiphytic ferns and mosses.
