Paaiki Valley, just N of Milolii Ridge Road; north facing slope. Elev. 1850-2000 ft.
Plant Description:
Tree 10 m. tall x 15 cm. in diam. (reaches 60 cm.) twig bark fibrous, mucilaginous. Leaves dark green w red veins. Floral bract & calyx drying brown, capsule red drying brown, seeds dark brown. Fairly large population on lower parts of north slope and ridges. Local regeneration noted, many juveniles. Seed collected from ground for CPC.
Habitat:
Mixed mesophytic forest.
Associated Species:
Metrosideros, Acacia koa, Pouteria, Diospyros spp., Nesgegis, Pleomele, with Aleurites in valley bottom along now dry stream bed.
