Paaiki Valley, just N of Milolii Ridge Road; north facing slope. Elev. 1850-2000 ft.
Plant Description:
Tree 16 m tall X 30 cm in diam. (reaches 60 cm.), bark smooth pale brownish gray w/ low transverse ridges. Leaves dark green with red veins. Floral bract & calyx drying brown, capsule red drying brown, seeds dark brown. Fairly large population on lower parts of north slope and ridges. Substantial regeneration noted, many juveniles. Seed collected for CPC.
Habitat:
Mixed mesophytic forest.
Associated Species:
Metrosideros, Acacia koa, Pouteria, Diospyros spp., Nesgegis, Pleomele, with Aleurites in valley bottom along now dry stream bed.
