Upper Limahuli Preserve in back of Limahuli Valley, above waterfall.
Plant Description:
Riparian tree 5 m tall, 17 cm diam basally, branches erect. Petole dk. purple-red. Fruiting calyx & capsules red tinged. Endemic. Small population of 4 plants locally along stream. Cuttings collected for cultivation at NTBG.
Habitat:
Lowland wet forest.
Associated Species:
Ilex anomala, Psychotria spp., Hedyotis spp., Melicope spp., Antidesma, and Metrosideros polymorpha.
