Locality:
Mapulehu; upper east side (Wailau Trail to Lae O Kapuna). Elev. 2400--3000 ft. Ca 30 trees on the west side of large flat in upper Kapuna Gulch between 2400--2450 ft elev.
Plant Description:
4--7 m tall, thickly branched trees with gray-brown stems; leaves glossy, dark green above, paler below, corolla deep red; calyx light green.
Habitat:
Summit ridge of Metrosideros Montane Wet Forest with Cibotium understory and headwaters of Kapuna Gulch with narrow gulches of Metrosideros-Antidesma Lowland Wet Forest.
