Lower Limahuli Valley. Ridge on W side of valley, N of Pritchardia Gulch.
Plant Description:
Small tree, weakly upright to falling, 8ft tall. Small dark red flower, calyx 6 lobed w/ ridges & stellate hairs, thin linear epicalyx red tinged. Yellow-green leathery lvs with wide veins. Bark dk grey. 3 trees in this immediate area, no others observed. 10 cuttings = NTBG#081005.
Habitat:
Remnant patch of lowland mixed mesic forest.
Associated Species:
Dominated by Diospyros spp. w/ Metrosideros, Psydrax, Wikstroemia oahuensis, Freycinetia, Pittosporum, Chamaesyce celastroides, Alyxia stellata, Hedyotis acuminata, Ochrosia, Rauvolfia sandwicensis, Cyanea hardyi, C. coriacea, Pisonia.
