Trees 15-20m tall; stem 30-50cm iin diameter; flowers yellow; fruits green maturing brown. N. V. Kolou [Pohnpeian]
Ethnobotanical Notes:
inner bark
Ceremonial plant. Tear bark off and use the inner bark for squeezing the pounded Kava roots.
young leaves
Bruises. Collect the shoots of the young plant as many as needed, pound and wrap on a piece of coconut fiber. Rub on where the bruise is.
bark
Premature or threatened labor. Scrape some of the bark and wrap it in a piece of cloth and squeeze in a cup of water and drink (pregnancy). It should be drunk only when the pregnancy is 6 months old and every day before the period.
leaves and flowers
Antidiarrheal. Pound the shoots of the young leaves as many as needed, wrap in a coconut fiber and squeeze in a cup of water and drink for 8 days or until it is cured. To treat children's diarrhea, collect as many flowers as needed, boil in water and drink up to 4 cups a day. Drink until diarrhea is cured.
