Plant Description:
Tree 10 m tall with dense, spreading canopy. Petiole apex pi nk. Fruit lantern-like, pale green ripening pink, enclosing single black seed. Common in littoral forest. Samoan name: "pu`a"

Associated Species:
Canopy of Barring tonia asiatica, Hernandia nymphaeifolia, Hibiscus tiliaceus, Ficus, Morinda, Macaranga, alternating with open littoral shrubland with Scaevola taccada, and agroforest areas, over coral rubble.
