Plant Description:
Tree to 5-6 m, dbh 25 cm, inflorescence with white bracts, fragrant fruit green, mature to orange. N.V. Ongor [Belauan].
Ethnobotanical Notes:
For first menstruation. When woman has 1st menstruation use all these plants for same steaming process.
flower: Sunblock. Boil flowers in coconut oil for 45 minutes and apply to skin to protect it from sun.
flower: Perfumed oil. Boil flowers in coconut oil for 45 minutes and use as perfumed oil. Can use the same flowers up to three times for perfuming oil, or just leave flowers in first pot of oil.
flowers: Ceremonial Plant: Vaginal steam bath for first born ceremony. This is one of the plants to add to the steam along with techelleia chull, Cassytha filiformis (MB 4363); cheskiik, Eurya japonica var. nitide (MB 4366); kertakuo, Decaspermum fruiticosum (MB 4369); itouch, Gleichenia diaranopteris (MB 4370); chelouchau, Citris sp. (MB 4371); and kemoukem, Derris trifuliatus (MB 4372). Put in pot of hot boiling water for one day. Next day (last day) of ceremony, woman sits over pot on seat, she is enclosed by a tent, 7 basins around her with same herbs. Another woman is helping her. Woman sits for 10 minutes or as long as can stand, if in the tent too long she'll get dizzy. (This treatment helps from dizziness in the sun when outside the next day). Breathe in with mouth and exhale with nose. If woman who is helping is menstruating or has the flu, she cannot go inside, another woman helps. [modekenger style of traditional medice].
