W. Maui, slopes of Helu, Puehuehunuui, Luakoi ridge. In open areas of sparse vegetation.
Plant Description:
Upright shrubs 30-60 cm tall; capsules bladdery, completely inflated and making a popping sound when crushed; yellow-green to burgandy in color; locally common with typical 1-2m tall form with much less inflatdd or compressed capsules.

W/ Osteomeles, Carex, Metrosideros, Leptecophylla, Bidens, Santalum, Myoporum, Sida, Waltheria.
