Plant Description:
Herb with tuber to 1 m, flower bracts green, stamens brownish-red, fruits green and seeded. Rich soil with coral layer. N.V. mwohk mwohk [Pohnpeian].
Ethnobotanical Notes:
tuber: Starch. Edible starch derived from tuber. Grind tubers, squeeze in water, spill off water, remove starch, mix with Taro Banana to make Pilolo, food thickened with starch.
Associated Species:
Forest with coconut, Cyrtosperma chamissonis (giant swamp taro) ferns, Pandanus, breadfruit.
