Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge, west flank of Hanalei Valley on Kauka`opua Ridge; elevation 150-500 ft.
Plant Description:
Tree 6-7 m x 30 cm diam. trunk, bark gray, fissured-checked, crown low, rounded. Phyllodes gray-green. Flower heads cream color. Old pods from ground. Large population of 400-500 trees on NE-facing slopes, many juveniles. Endemic.
Habitat:
Secondary forest.
Associated Species:
Rhodomyrtos tomentosa, Ardisia elliptica, Psidium cattleianum, Melacuca, Eucalyptus, and remnants of Acacia koaia lowland mesic forest.
