Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge, west flank of Hanalei Valley, on Kauka`opua Ridge; elevation 150-500 ft.
Plant Description:
Tree 6 m tall with dense, bushy crown. Inflorescences cream color. Pods ripe, dehiscent, seeds black. Abundant locally, many juveniles. Population of 400-500 individuals on NE-facing slopes. Endemic.
Habitat:
Secondary forest.
Associated Species:
Rhodomyrtus tomentosa, Ardisia elliptica, Psidium cattleianum, Eucalyptus, Melaleuca, and remnants of Acacia koaia lowland wet forest.
