Road from Captain Cook running east to Papaloa, up lower western slopes of Mauna Loa, on Kealakekua Ranch of Sherwood Greenwell; alt. 900-1050 m.
Plant Description:
Tree 15 m tall, trunk 50 cm in diam., bark gray, flaking, crown not greatly spreading. Flowers pale yellowish white. Common locally, indigenous.
Habitat:
Tall mixed mesophytic forest.
Associated Species:
Metrosideros dominant, Acacia koa appearing at ca. 1000 m and dominant in some areas, dense Cibotium understory.
