Road from Captain Cook running east to Papaloa, up lower western slopes of Mauna Loa, on Kealakekua Ranch of Sherwood Greenwell; alt. 900-1050 m.
Plant Description:
Tree 12 m tall, 40 cm. in diameter, pods green, seeds mostly transverse to axis. Locally dominant, indigenous.
Habitat:
Tall mixed mesophytic forest.
Associated Species:
Metrosideros dominant, Acacia koa appearing at ca. 1000 m., dominant in some aread, dense Cibotium understory.
