Join us on June 26th, 2019 for our monthly lecture series with Michael J. DeMotta, NTBG Curator of Living Collections and Kevin Houck, NTBG Plant Records Manager.
Topic: Living Collections and Conservation at NTBG, Kauai
Michael J. DeMotta will detail some of the rare Hawaiian plant conservation projects that he has been involved with on Kauai over the past few years. He will discuss new techniques that NTBG has employed as part of their conservation horticulture initiative and the many ways NTBG supports rare plant conservation within the organization.
Topic: Living Collections Inventory: April 2018 Flood Event on Kauai
The Living Collections of Limahuli and McBryde Gardens sustained heavy damages from the catastrophic flood events of April 2018. Kevin Houck will discuss the dynamics of the flood, and share how GNSS mapping technology and pro‐active labeling practices are assisting with the restoration of the affected areas by the resilient staff, interns and volunteers of NTBG’s Kaua’i Gardens.
The event will begin at 6:30 pm with wine and light bites. The lecture will begin promptly at 7:00 pm.
Admission is always complimentary for members and $10 donations are suggested for guests. This is also a great opportunity to become a Kampong member, if you are not already, and become part of the NTBG family.
