Fundamentals of Candle Making with Buena Vista Candle Co.

Saturday, October 14, 2023 | 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Kampong, Kenan Science Laboratory

Proper candle-making is technical and experimental in varying degrees. With the right foundational techniques and tools in place, candle-making transforms into a trusted artistic and meditative process. Come and learn the basics of making an aromatic soy wax candle at The Kampong with Buena Vista Candle Co. Under our guidance, you’ll create your own candle from start to finish, embarking on a scent journey, where you’ll explore the botanical properties used in our library of aroma.

Learn the basics about:

  • The benefits of natural waxes and essential oils in candle-making
  • Temperature moderation
  • Pouring like a pro
  • Wick positioning
  • Curing advice

* This is not a scent formulation class. Guests will create candles using scents from our library of tested formulas to ensure the utmost quality when you enjoy your candle at home.

Soy candles require a longer curing period, and for that reason, you’ll be advised to leave the candle in place for 1-2 hours in the temperature-controlled lab to fully settle prior to transporting.  You are welcomed to explore the gardens during this time and return to pick up the candle once the wax is fully settled.

It’s also recommended that you allow the candle to fully cure at home for at least a week before igniting and enjoying. Suitable for ages 16 and up. Limited to 10 participants.
