Magical Marquesas: The Rarely Seen Flora of a Biodiversity Hot Spot

Tuesday, January 14, 2020 – 5:30pm

NTBG and KCC’s collaborative Earth Matters public lecture series continues on Tuesday, January 14 from 5:30 p.m. at Kaua‘i Community College as Dr. David Lorence, Senior Research Botanist at the National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG), presents a talk on the rich biodiversity of the Marquesas Islands, an isolated volcanic archipelago of 12 islands and many islets. Nearly half of this biodiversity hotspot’s native plants are found nowhere else on earth, including hundreds of flowering plants and ferns. Dr. Lorence and his colleagues have spent over 30 years documenting the flora of the Marquesas and will share his findings in this lecture.

Earth Matters lectures are held in the KCC Campus Center Cafeteria behind the Performing Arts Center. For questions about access of special accommodations, call (808) 332‐7324 Ex. 225 at least 10 days in advance.
