Capturing Florida Panthers, A Tree Climber’s Perspective

Kampong Lecture Series, November 15

Thursday, November 15, 2018 – 6:30pm

Lecture Topic: Capturing Florida Panthers, A Tree Climber’s Perspective

Join us at The Kampong on November 15th for our monthly lecture series with guest speaker Dennis J. Giardina, Everglades Region Biologist from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. For 30 years Dennis J. Giardina has focused on endangered species recovery and invasive species control.

Since the early 1980s, as part of the recovery of the Florida panther (Puma concolor coryii), two teams, consisting of biologists, veterinarians and hound dogs have captured wild Florida panthers in the Everglades Ecoregion to monitor the health of this last remaining reproductive population of Pumas, east of the Mississippi River and to be able to monitor their movements, using radio and satellite collars. This presentation will focus on the techniques used to do so, featuring interesting anecdotes and spectacular photography.

The event will begin at 6:30 pm with wine and light bites. The lecture will begin promptly at 7:00 pm.

Admission is always complimentary for members and $10 donations are suggested for guests. This is also a great opportunity to become a Kampong member, if you are not already, and become part of the NTBG family.

You may purchase a membership online or by calling 305-442-7169 ext. 100.
